Fancy a boat trip? The sailing season for ferries at Brno Lake was officially launched on April 29th and finishes on October 22nd.

Sailing for private motor boats with motors up to 10 kW is now allowed. The ban lasted since 1976 with a short exception in 2015 and was lifted by the Czech Constitutional Court today after the appeal of the Czech Ministry of Transportation.

Brno lake is a large water reservoir (2,59 km²) with lots of tacky fast food stalls, sport boat hire places, beaches, fairground like sideshows, and some really nice ferry trips to Veveří Castle. The place is great for hiking and cycling.

Getting there: From the central station or Česká, you can take tram #1 or 3 respectively (direction Bystrc). Get off in about 30 minutes at Přístaviště (Czech for “a harbor”). Alternatively, get off at ZOO tram stop and take a pleasant walk along the Svratka river, you will reach Brno Dam in 20 minutes.
