Brno, Sep 15 (BD) – Masaryk University’s hockey team will compete for the first time in the European University Hockey League (EUHL).

The debut of HC MUNI in the league will be marked by matches against universities from Slovakia, Czech, Poland, and Hungary.

The project HC Masaryk was founded in 2015 by three former students, Ondřej Stehlík, Peter Bustin and Josef Novák to fulfill their dream of competing in a hockey team with the same dimensions as NCAA, the American University League. Also, during their studies, they found very hard to conciliate the studies with professional ice hockey career.

HC Masaryk Hockey project goes beyond the ice rink. This initiative is a very unique project that combines the best of both worlds – university and sports – and it gives to all students (ERASMUS inclusive) the chance to be involved in many ways.

“Students can find a lot’s of practices in our team. The team will provide an irreplaceable experience for more than 20 students. Future managers, journalists, marketers, coaches, and many others – all of us will find a place. We will become one big student family and we will all be the best!,” the co-founder of the team, Ondřej Stehlík says.

HC Masaryk launched a crowdfunding project that aims to guarantee continued financial support to the team and needs of all the participants because ice hockey is not a cheap sport. Those who are willing to contribute can choose from rewards as jerseys, team scarfs, match passports, and many others. You can support them here.

This project is very unique and the city also benefits from it. Students are encouraged to participate because “It’s a good link between students of all faculties of Masaryk University. Right now, Brno is a hockey town, a university town and a party town. We are offering all of that in one package,” Stehlík clarifies.

HC MUNI wants to show Europe the best team of Czech Republic that won for two consecutive years the national academic championship and the EUHÇ is the perfect occasion for that.

“EUHL is a young and progressive league and we are looking forward to compete in this league”, Stehlík explains.

The European University Hockey League (EUHL) managed by European University Hockey Association was founded in 2013.

Currently, the league consists of 13 teams from 4 different countries, but next year the number of participants will increase, according to the official website of the league, euhl.eu.
