Server Ihned.cz reports that Uber stops operating in Brno starting today May 11, 2017.

According to the regional Court of Law, Uber violated several provisions of the law that defines taxi operation and demands all taxis to have taximeters. The cars must be marked as taxis with a company name and the drivers need to possess a special license.

Uber’s spokesman stated that the company has appealed against the verdict and claimed that Uber taxis will be able to provide their services in Brno soon again. The activities of Uber in Prague have not been affected.

Uber began operating in Brno this February. Uber gives the option to anyone to operate as a taxi driver. Many consider Uber’s services as an unfair competition to traditional local taxi business.
