For the first time, Brno sport fans saw a model of new Za Lužánkami stadium before the game with Jihlava. The construction costs are estimated at 1.5 billion CZK. The new stadium should take up to 33,000 spectators.
The original Za Lužánkami stadium was built in 1949-1953. With the reconstruction in 1961, Brno stadium became the largest stadium in the country with a capacity of 66,000 spectators. Over time, Lužánecky stadium however didn’t meet the requirements of Premier League and was finally closed in 2001.
“The construction of a new football stadium is one of the strategic projects of the city of Brno.”said Mayor of Brno Petr Vokřál. The construction work is supposed to start next year. Whole June, people can view a model of the new sport center at Galerie Vaňkovka shopping mall.
There will be other four training fields in the area. Next to the football stadium, Kometa Brno is planning to rebuild its hockey arena. “It won’t be a race what stadium grows earlier. I suppose the football stadium and hockey arena will be completed at approximately the same time, “said Vokřál.
