Brno, June 2 (BD) – A new market place at Zelny Trh will open in the second half of June – a place where you can shop for groceries and eat at any time. ” In mornings, the stalls and bistros will offer breakfast, coffee and tea; at noon there will be restaurants with lunch menu; and in the evenings, a cocktail bar. Throughout a day, the stores will sell fresh meat, fish, and other products.” said earlier this year Municipality spokesman Denisa Kapitančiková.

The top floor will host a co-working center, a space for various professionals who work independently. In the evenings, the atmosphere of the place will completely change – a rooftop bar with an observation terrace with a stunning view of Zelny Trh and the historic center will open.

Reconstruction of the building began in May 2015. Builders started to work on the reconstruction in mid-2016, but in the fall the works got suspended for statics issues. Building manager is currently preparing last details of rental contracts for new cafes, shops, and other businesses.

Architect Michal Palaščák wanted to bring the building back to its original style from the late forties of the twentieth century. “The idea was to return it the original purpose and restore communication links.” In addition to the changes of external looks, the building has undergone a major transformation of its interior. “The place would be used to sell food. Thus, the new interior will be an extension of the open air market.” New marketplace will have to offer products that can’t be easily sold at the outdoor market such as meat or dairy products.

Market building was finished in 1950 and replaced the bombed old townhouses. In the nineties, the building was hastily rebuilt with no regards to its roots and respect to its surroundings. Architect Michal Palaščák, author of the current reconstruction, intends to return it to its original form.

An estimated budget of the extensive reconstruction counts with the total of fifty-four million crowns.
