June 27, Brno (BD) – Have you ever thought to yourself “Hmm, those cars that transport bodies all day long must produce a lot of emission?” Well, worry no more, the Brno Municipality is looking after well-being of our planet.

This year, Administration of Brno City Cemeteries (SHMB) has purchased their fifth electric vehicle. Next year, they are planning to replace four trucks running on fuel with vehicles powered by compressed natural gas (CNG).

Deputy Mayor of the Environment, Martin Ander, says that it is very important for Brno to show the gradual shift towards sustainable technologies improving the environment we live in. He goes on to recommend electric and gas vehicles for short distance driving improving the air that we’re breathing.

The new electric vehicles lasts the whole workweek after an 8-hour charge. Each vehicle costs around 950 thousand CZK and is partly funded by the Governmental Environment Fund.

Administration of Brno City Cemeteries was the first Brno-funded organization that decided to change their cars with low emission vehicles. First electric car was acquired in 2000, another one three years later. In both cases, it was a lorry Melex made in Poland.
