Brno, June 28 (BD) – Binge watching, TV loving folks, hold your Netfilx subscriptions because in May next year, there will be a TV series festival in Brno. The City Council has approved the idea of Serial Killer: Best TV Fest Brno with the funding of 3 million crowns from the Department of Culture.
Having Karlovy Vary, Jihlava and Zlin film festivals makes Czech Republic a popular destination for film makers and movie goers in Central Europe. Cinema art has been lately taking over the country, tangibly becoming more popular every day. Check out the recent 48 Hour Film Challenge of Brno, where 8 teams made short movies from scratch in a span of 2 days only.
The organizers have already confirmed the cooperation with European broadcasters, HBO, and Czech national television and continue the talks with Amazon and Netfilx. The planned date of the festival launch is beginning of May 2018.
The vice-dean of Film and Art School of Brno (FAMU), Kamila Zlatušková, will lead the project. “Serial Killer: Best TV Fest Brno will feature the legends of the world series scene,” she promises. Zlatušková wants to invite Lars von Trier for the festival kick-off next year.
There will be several venues for festival screening. Kino Scala, Kabinet múz and Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts will become the indoors places along with Moravské and Jakubské Squares providing the great outdoors.
The festival with a total budget of 12 millions crowns is expected to host about 12 to 15 thousand visitors. “By supporting the festival Brno will strengthen its position on the cultural map of Europe,” says the Deputy Mayor of Culture, Matěj Hollan.
