Brno, July 9 (BD) – Do you miss cool air on Brno’s public transportation in hot summer days? Everyone has noticed that buses and trams in Brno lack AC. Brno City Transport Company has launched its very first airconditioned bus-pioneer this week. Another 23 air-conditioned buses will join the project by the end of the year; the odds to come across the cool bus-pioneer this summer are pretty low, though.

The test-bus works particular route and exams air-regulation. Brno has been continuously against air-conditioning in public transport. The often repeated reason has been that the constant door-opening makes AC inefficient.

Now, the EU grant of 411 million CZK ensures 60 fresh new AC natural gas buses; 23 of them will be at disposal until the end of 2017. Do not count on AC on trams. There is no hint that it will happen anytime soon.

Brno stays behind the world’s and republic’s trends regarding AC in public transportation. The City of Zlín introduced AC buses already in 2012 and almost one third of all public buses are air-conditioned there. Prague has 52 AC buses out of 1180 in total. However, every tenth Prague’s tram is cooled. Prague should allegedly double the numbe AC public transportation next year.
