Karlovy Vary, West Bohemia, July 9 (CTK) – About 550 accredited film professionals from abroad visited the 52nd Karlovy Vary International Film Festival that ended on Saturday, the festival’s executive director Krystof Mucha told CTK.
Mucha said 213 buyers and distributors and 222 programme managers of film festivals were choosing from news films and Works in Progress.
Eight of 77 projects from Central and East Europe, the Balkans, Turkey, Greece and the former Soviet republics were shortlisted for the Works in Progress competition and the prize, including 100,000 euros to help complete the project, was won by Censor by Slovak filmmaker Peter Kerekes and scriptwriter Ivan Ostrochovsky. The film is to be premiered next year, Mucha said.
The film La Controfigura, made in Italian, French and Moroccan co-production, won the Eurimages Lab award for the best experimental project and 50,000 euros that go with it.
Four Eurimages Lab awards are to be given to international co-production projects, each at one European film festival.
In the category of starting directors, associations of film critics awarded the American romantic comedy Keep the Change by Rachel Israel (FIPRESCI award) and the Romanian film Marita by Cristi Iftime (FEDEORA award). The Turkish-Belgian film Blue Silence by Bulent Ozturk won a special recognition.
The Cakemaker by Israeli director Ofir Raul Graizer won the Ecumenical Jury award.
