Recycling and donating your clothes and other gently used household items to local charities keep them out of the trash and give them into the hands of someone who can give them a second life.

Containers for donating clothes and textiles

Did you know that each of us “produces” about 16 kg of clothing  per year? Textiles often end up as an part of general municipal waste.  The easiest way to contribute to improving our environment is to place the used and unwanted textiles wrapped in plastic bags in special containers located in more than 30 streets of Brno. The textiles should be clean and dry. Find here the list with maps of textile collection containers in Brno.

Use the containers for:

  • all clothing, shoes, bags, handbags, home textiles (curtains, draperies, bedding, blankets, tablecloths, blankets).

Do not use the containers for:

  • the container are not for carpets, mattresses, foam, or dirty textiles.

What will happen with your old clothes?

Textiles are sorted by quality and usability into several categories. Each category undergoes different recycling cycle:

  1. First category of clothing goes to second hand shops, third world countries, or to charity. They continue to serve its original purpose.
  2. Low quality material is cut into rags and finds its use eg. in engineering or the automotive industry.
  3. Third category is reused in form of textile fibers which are then used by manufacturers of garments.
