Ambitious Infrastructure Plans of Brno City Council

Brno, August 11 (BD) – On Tuesday, the Council of the City of Brno approved tenders for several ambitious infrastructure plans.

Riviéra Swimming Pool

Public swimming pool, Riviéra, will begin its reconstruction at the end of this season. The Council decided to address the long forgotten issues of the pool.

Richard Mrázek, the Deputy Mayor, says “200 m3 of water leak from the pool every day. With the volume of the pool of 7906 m3, it is a crucial long-term issue.”

He added that the priority of these works is to reopen the pool for the next season. Metrostav a.s. won the tender for the project setting 40 weeks for the planned renovation.

This will include modernizing the pool technology, repair of the walls, building slopes and slides and new attractions for children. The cost of the project is 209 million crowns excluding VAT. Want to know more? Read our article Riviera Outdoor Swimming Complex Awaits Reconstruction.

Gorkého and Arne Nováka

The streets of Gorkého and Arne Nováka surrounding the Philosophy Department of Masaryk University will face major ground works – reconstruction of sewerage system, water supply, and road.

The project has been sitting on the shelf for over two years. The goal is to renovate what’s underground and improve the street surface. There will be new sidewalks created for safer passage accompanied by new benches. Bicycle racks, space for bike sharing and car parking are also in the plans.

In the years to come, the street will turn into a beautiful alley with cherry and pear trees. The expected construction time is 16 months, with the budget of 90 million crowns. We wrote about this project here.

Campus Athletic Hall

A three-story building in the territory of Bohunice campus opposite to the Faculty of Sport Studies will be built by the end of 2020. “It will meet the criteria of the International Athletics Federation for national and international competitions”, Mrázek says .

It will have a capacity of 2000 spectators and will additionally focus on renewable energy and environmental impact regarding CO2 emission.

The athletic hall will cover the needs of winter preparation of Brno athletes, while in the meantime, between the competitions, it will be a basic sport facility. The estimated construction cost is 450 million without VAT.
