Brno, August 22 (BD) – Pickpocketing is a fairly big problem in heavily populated cities nowadays. Recently, a few people in Brno have had their belongings stolen right under their nose. The robberies mostly happened during the late evenings when people are weary and prone to doze off in public transport or parks.

Last week, a twenty-five-year-old man who was travelling from the city center to Žebětín fell asleep on bus. A backpack on his lap was not a problem for the thief, who stole his wallet with 1.200 crowns, credit cards, and personal documents.

A twenty-one-year-old sleepy foreigner was robbed on train, where the thief stole 11.000 crowns in euro and dollars from her bag placed on a shelf.

On Nádražní street, a sixty-nine-year-old woman came about to rest on a bench. She had her purse stolen with a few hundred crowns, umbrella and other personal belongings.

Police of the South Moravian Region call public to better watch their belongings. “A little bit of alcohol in the body during the heat of summer days may cause fatigue, which may be enough for thieves to take advantage of,” police write on their official website.

Keep your valuable possession in the places hidden from the public eye. For instance, police recommend to keep wallets and cellphones right on you than in a separate bag.

If you happen to have a bag, make sure the zippers are securely locked.
