Hradec Kralove, East Bohemia, Sept 4 (CTK) – The annual two-day Czech International Air Fest (CIAF) was seen by roughly 20,000 people this time, while the figure was double last year, spokesman Tomas Otruba told journalists yesterday.

“We believe the bad weather on Friday was to blame as on this day people plan their weekends. They were obviously afraid that there would be bad weather on the airport,” Otruba said.

The show was visited by two SU-27 bombers.

The organisers had to look for a replacement for two Eurofighter Typhoon planes.

Due to the Friday rain, they could not land in Hradec Kralove. One pilot flew to the nearby Pardubice, but he taxied off the runway. The other plane returned to the base in Britain.

“Today, we managed to widen the program by a Polish group of three AT-3 planes which replaced the British Eurofighters. There were no more complications, the viewers enjoyed the programme,” Otruba said.

CIAF has been annually held at the airport of the east Bohemian centre Hradec Kralove since 1993, with the exception of some years when it was hosted by Brno.

This year, the CIAF was held for the 24th times.
