Brno, Sep 4 (BD) – At the end of August, the new bridge and insulation were ready and only the tracks and rails had to be installed. At the moment, the main railway station partially works. More connections are arriving as the repairs are winding up.

In past three months, almost ten thousand passengers were redirected to the train stations of Židenice, Královo Pole and Brno-Dolní nádraží as most connections departed and arrived there.

The reconstruction of the platforms cost up to 68 million Czech crowns; the cost of the reparation of the bridge over Křenová Street is 55 million. The additional repairs cost another 47 millions crowns.

More reconstructions in 2018

More repairs are planned for the upcoming year. The cost is estimated to 2.5 billion Czech crowns. “The capacity of the railway station is up to its limits at peak times. The planned reconstructions aim to a smooth operation until a new railway station is established,” SŽDC spokesman Kateřina Šubová said to Czech News Agency.

Besides increasing the capacity of the station, a complete replacement of the security system is scheduled. Repairs will start in the spring of 2018 with preparatory works.

Brno Dolní nádraží will undergo repairs for a year and half and more major reconstructions are planned in 2019.

As the new school year started, the demand for smooth transportation is higher and Brno citizens look forward to the complete opening of the main station.
