“By the Bog of Cats” the best-known work of the famous playwright Marina Carr will open the new season of National Theater of Brno.

Brno, Sept 22 (BD) – The play will be the first premiere of the winter season. “By the Bog of Cats” had its first interpretation in October of 1998 in Dublin.

Marina Carr has a rich background full of successful theatrical works. She has a Doctorate of Literature and is considered one of Ireland’s most prominent playwrights. Her work has received numerous awards among the years.

“By the Bog of Cats” has its roots in Euripides’ “Medea” but holds a strong Irish feeling.

The storyline displays what happens when a mother breaks the heart of her seven-year-old daughter Hester. “The game is very rough, but there are many comic moments”, said playwright Pavel Jurda.

Hester, who has suffered this terrible trauma, is now a 40 years old mother herself who is still waiting for her mother to keep her promise and return back to her.

Her daughter’s father betrayed her lover and got married to a young and lovely woman because of her property.

Hester really wants to love, but she can not do it without harming herself. “We’re talking about what we call society guilt in the game, and we’re dealing with what’s called morality,” said Martin Františák.

The premiere will be on today (Friday, September 22nd), at Mahen’s Theater. In the production you can see Tereza Groszmann as Hester Swan, Igor Bareš in the role of Xavier Cassidy and more loved actors.
