Brno, Sep 22 (BD) – In 2012, the city received a newly rebuilt Lužánky park. European Union has financially supported its reconstruction, in the worth of approximately 4.4 million CZK.
However, a former staff member of the city’s Department of European Projects in charge of the documentation failed to file the billing of the reconstruction in 2013, Milada Prokopová from Czech daily iDnes.cz wrote.
As result, the Brno Municipality will have to refund European Union approximately 600.000 CZK, Prokopová from iDnes.cz reported.
The city considered the gross mistake as negligence of one single person. It is not believed that it was deliberated act.
“According to what was found, he certainly did not do it deliberately, otherwise it would be a crime,” the Head of the European Funds Implementation Unit of Brno unicipality, Radka Řeřichy clarified for iDnes.cz.
The city charged the concerned employee 109.000 CZK, that must be paid in 10 years.
“He worked at the office for a fixed term. His employment relationship ended, and afterwards the employer and the supervisor learned about the damage caused,” the spokesman of the Brno Municipality, Filip Poňuchálek said.
According to the Municipality, this case was an exception.
At the moment, 19 people manage the European Department of European Projects.
