Brno, Sep 23 (BD) – Regional councilors approved the payment of 10 million CZK for the development of new international airline connections with South Moravia.
Currently, there are ongoing flights from Brno to Munich, London and Eindhoven (by the end of November). The newly approved project foresees the creation of six more fares connecting Brno with the world. The destinations remain unknown at the moment.
Bohumil Šimek , governor of South Moravian Region from ANO Movement, said that his office is working on the introduction of the new connections but does not want to advance more details.
The plan was unanimously approved. The payment was approved by 48 regional representatives, no one stood against. Nine representatives of Lidovci [People’s Party] abstained.
“The initial investment is 10 million CZK however, there are more reserved funds to support the project,” South Moravian Region’s spokesperson, Monika Brindzáková said, Czech Daily iDnes.cz reported yesterday.
Šimek claims, the flight tickets to the new destinations can be purchased starting from December 2017, iDnes.cz wrote. There is a high likelihood that some lines will start operating in March next year.
The city will undoubtedly profit from the incoming flights due to the high demand of tourists, residents, students, and local entrepreneurs.
“We are going to have a study done by a European specialist, if we can target the most demanded destinations. Everything is about speed and readiness. Regarding the financing of air transport, we will participate with Brno Municipality,” Šimek explained.
South Moravian Region [Jihomoravský kraj] is the only partner of the company South Moravian Development Company [Jihomoravská rozvojová společnost] and its activities mainly include expanding and maintaining the air transport accessibility of the South Moravian Region and the City of Brno.
“In order for the company to start realizing the activities for which it was founded, it is necessary to increase its own capital as a start-up investment,” Šimek commented the 10 million investment.
