Brno, Sep 24 (BD) – The city’s project to improve the quality of life of those in need will kick off in January 2018. Most of the initiatives will start later than expected.

The opposition criticizes the already existing programs such as Rapid Re-Housing due to its lack of success. Also, some politicians stand against the upcoming similar project, Housing First, that lodges homeless people.

“According to our July information provided to us by Brno Municipality, out of fifty families, seventeen were in debt. It is possible that now the number is even higher. It does not look as optimistic as it was in the beginning,” the opposition deputy, Oliver Pospíšil (ČSSD) said to Czech daily iDnes.cz.

It is estimated that over 2.000 families have troubles paying rent in Brno. These projects aim to provide solutions in regards of housing, finances, health, relationship and employment.

“All projects are designed to help people to solve their problems themselves and help them to stand up again on their own feet,” the Brno representative for social inclusion, Martin Freud clarified.

In three years, the city plans to spend over 100 million CZK in these projects. The list of projects created for families in need includes social rental agency, mediation center, guarantee funds and other institutions.

The city needs the approval from the Ministry of Social Affairs and EU that would cover 90% of the total costs of the program, Freud explained.
