Brno, Oct 7 (BD) – Brno invests 8 million CZK into promoting the Winter Olympics 2018 in PyeongChang. A giant sports ground will be built in the pavilion Z of the Pisárky Exhibition Center to offer us an unconventional sport experience.

First-hand Olympics atmosphere in Brno

In February 2018, citizens of Brno will be able to enjoy the Olympics atmosphere without leaving their city. Brno is building an Olympic park at the Exhibition Center in Pisárky.

President of the Czech Olympic Committee Jiří Kejval claims that Czech citizens are honestly interested in performance of their athletes: “We have conducted a research – it says 90% of all Czech citizens know about the Olympics and 80% are watching the performance of Czech athletes, which is a great result. Yet, they mostly watch it on television or on the Internet. We would like them to become a part of it,” he said to the Czech on-line daily iDnes.cz

Olympic Park in BVV Trade Fairs Brno is subsidized by both, Brno Municipality and the South Moravian region. They provide 8 million CZK and 7.5 million CZK respectively, Brno’s official portal Brno.cz informed last Tuesday.

Skating track of 200 meters, ice hockey pitch or two curling tracks – these and much more under one roof and weatherproof.

“We believe that local sports fans will find their way to the Brno Exhibition Centre and try out various sports available in the park,” Kejval said in the official statement.

Besides classical sports, people will be able to try even ski jumping from a ramp 4 meters high off the ground.

Hockey and schools get money, too

38 millions CZK will financially aid the elementary schools. Schools like Vranovská and Hroznová will get money for a new roof or dehumidification.

Money approved by City Council will support leisure activities for children, e.g. 5 million CZK go into youth hockey clubs.

As it seems, healthy physical competitive activities are among Brno Council’s priorities.
