Bus driver caught with 0.98 promille of alcohol in blood, police report

Brno, Oct 9 (BD) – This weekend and on Monday morning, 430 drivers in South Moravian region were tested for alcohol and illicit substances. 27 drivers were driving under the influence.

Twenty-two drivers failed the alcohol compliance test. 19 were charged with misdemeanors and 3 with criminal offenses – trestný čin.

Five motorists were driving under the effect of illicit substances, Pavel Šváb, Police spokesperson reports.

This morning in Rousínov, police took a driving license of a professional bus driver whose test revealed 0.98 promille of alcohol in blood. He was driving three passengers at the time of the test.

3,0 promille can kill a normal person. Some people can handle more than others, but at 0,5 it’s the vital organs stop working.

The driver was charged for driving under the influence and posing a threat to public safety, Police write in the official statement.

The results of Monday morning alcohol and drugs compliance check among bus drivers were better than in January 2017 when 6 bus drivers were caught driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Czech law operates a zero-tolerance approach to the use of alcohol and other drugs prior to driving.
