Brno, Oct 11 (BD) – 2500 Czechoslovak pilots who served during the World War II in the British Royal Air Force will be honored at the unique exhibition “Knights of the Skies”. The project was officially supported by British Prince William.
“The purpose of this exhibition is to look back in the past and realize that the present peace has been redeemed with many lives. The smallest thing we can do is not to forget, ” Mayor of Brno Petr Vokřál said. The exhibition is held under Mayor’s auspices.
The first day of the exhibition will culminate in an extraordinary meeting and discussion with three Czechoslovakian World War II survivors at 6 pm in the building of Observatory and Planetarium Brno.
“The aim of this public discussion is that three absolutely different people share their memories of one of the greatest human conflicts each took part in a very different way, ” the author of the exhibition idea Jan Kratochvil explains.
The exhibition is based mainly on extensive photographic documentation and 3D artefacts.
The visitors can view the original uniforms of RAF commanders and star pilots and their personal belongings.
Among the things that visitors can see, there is a private diary of Hanuš Pollak, a relative of the famous Brno Löw-Beer family.
The organizers were originally considering a loan of a full-size Spitfire.
The center of the exhibition is an installation of panels portraying lives of 2500 Czechoslovak RAF pilots.
“Such an extensive event is unprecedented since 1945, when a victorious march and a festive show of the returning RAF pilots took place in Prague,” Jan Kratochvil closes.
The exhibition takes place from 12th to 26th October 2017 in the Morava Pavilion in the Brno Exhibition Center.
