Bollywood film festival is an “echo” of the Bollywood film festival in Prague that is held from October 19 to October 22.
In Brno, previous events brought a lot of fans.
As one of the organizers, Jan Těšitel, says: “We feel it’s a great opportunity to bring Bollywood to them. There are 2.000-3.000 people coming every year, depending on how many days the festival is going. And the feedback? Great! After every year we decide to continue the next one!”
About how they came up with this idea Jan Těšitel says: “There is quite big community of Indians in the Czech Republic and they love the movies. However, there are also many Czech fans of Bollywood movies, every year more and more, especially when the festival has already the 15th anniversary”.
This time organizers hope to see more fans of Bollywood movies and a lot of new spectators as they have to offer something special to their fans.
The movie Jab Harry Met Sejal, that was filmed in Czech Republic and has the greatest Bollywood actor, producer and television personality Shah Rukh Khan!
Shah Rukh Khan, also known as “Baadshah of Bollywood”, “King of Bollywood” or “King Khan”, has appeared in more than 80 Bollywood films, and earned numerous accolades, including 14 Filmfare Awards. In terms of audience size and income, he has been described as one of the most successful film stars in the world.

Scala Cinema
The cinema Univerzitni kino Scala, was originally called Bio Dopz.
It opened on December 28, 1929 and had 800 seats.
Two years later, in 1929 the number of seats increased to 1012 and the name was changed to Bio Scala.
After the German occupation in 1945, the cinema renamed again, to Cinema Moscow, and after interior adaption the number of the seats reduced to 478.
Moscow Cinema was the most modern cinema in Brno during the 80s decade.
Cinema renamed again – back to Scala cinema in 1989 with the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia.
Because of multiplex cinemas the number of the visitors started to decrease and on December 2011, Kino Scala finished its operating as a city cinema with a morning screening for school kids.
In spring 2003 Masaryk University signed an agreement with the City of Brno to use the cinema for lectures, teachings, film screenings, conferences, and academic as well as social events for 20 years, so the old cinema is again full of life.
