Today, Brno hosts the first edition of the English stand-up Velvet Comedy Show. Did you have a boring week and all you wish is to roar with laughter? Line up of professional comedians, free shot with a purchased ticket and lovely venue of ArtBar Druhý Pád.
You will spend for sure the funniest two hours of the entire week. The Friday show is an English speaking stand-up. Three comedians plus MC. During the event, three comedians will be telling a lot, a lot of jokes and funny stories, from the easiest to the most sarcastic.
The founder of the show Kristýna Haklová will be your host for the evening. Prague based comedians will be accompanied by a headliner Liz Donehue – a special guests from Chicago comedy scene. You can find the comedians’ bios at the end of this article.
The stand-up show is very popular among the foreign community of Prague and now it’s coming for the first time to Brno.
“There is a successful weekly show in one expats favorite spots, the Czech Inn Bar on Krymská. [The show] happens every Tuesday and each comedian has seven minutes to make the audience laugh,” the event organizer and stand-up comedy promoter, Kristýna Haklová explains.
This time, Velvet Comedy Show will bring a different concept to Brno. Instead of having seven minutes to make people laugh, the comedians will perform in longer sets.
Good news. The Velvet Comedy Show will make Brno laugh more often. “We will bring this kind of show to Brno on regular basis. I will often invite professional comedians from abroad,” Haklová plans.
Door opens at 7 pm, show starts at 8 pm. Come in early to secure the best seats and enjoy the beer selection on tap!

Liz grew up in Seattle, where she realized she wanted to do more with her Creative Writing degree than sleep on her mom’s couch and watch reruns of Ghost Adventures. After relocating to Minneapolis in 2011, she began shaping her edgy and assertive style of comedy at Acme Comedy Company and the Comedy Corner Underground. One year after stepping on stage for the first time, Liz was voted a finalist in the “Funniest Person in the Twin Cities” contest for her sharp and percipient humor. In 2015, she moved home to Seattle and began to produce and host “One Laugh at a Time,” a comedy showcase featuring sober comedians and comedians in recovery. The show is been a huge success as it has provided comedic entertainment without the culture surrounding alcohol. She performs all around the Pacific Northwest and will be relocating to the Czech Republic in October 2017.
Alex – a man of different accents. Prague’s funniest tour guide will leave you in stitches sharing his hilarious work stories. Be careful! His humour is dry, ironic and sarcastic. But all in all, he is a nice guy.
Martin Filippi is a Prague based professional comedian. He performs regularly with Underground Comedy as well as with Velvet Comedy. He does not like providing funny bios for Facebook posts.
