Brno, Oct 27 (BD) – Alternative taxi service Uber can start service again in the city of Brno.
The Deputy Mayor of Brno, transport manager Matěj Hollan (Žít Brno), said that the Supreme Court took this decision.
“The Supreme Court of Olomouc finally gave its observation on the decision to appeal against Uber, and decided to cancel the interim injunction. Uber can start driving in Brno. I believe that the taxi drivers will accept the decision of the court with humility and will not block the streets of Brno causing complications for the drivers. It would be a good gesture to show that the court’s decision is respected,” Matej Hollan wrote on his Facebook page.
Uber is waiting for the full text of the decision.
“Only one of the pages has been revealed, the other two should be revealed during today,” court spokeswoman Eva Sigmund, told the Brno edition of iDnes.cz.
The Courts and the Brno municipality began to investigate the action brought by Lidotaxi claiming that Uber does not operate in accordance with the tax regulations in force.
The preliminary injunction, under which Uber was banned to drive in Brno in the dispute, was first issued in spring by the Regional Court in Brno, but the Supreme Court canceled it.
The judges in the regional court ruled Uber in Brno was forbidden from operating.
This is the decision that the Supreme Court has now annulled.
“It means that Uber can start driving in Brno, but it does not mean that the question whether the ride is in compliance with the law, is solved. This question will be solved by the court,” Hollan said.
David Dostál, the owners of the two largest transport companies in Brno, City Taxi and Lido Taxi, was surprised by the court decision.
“We will join the protest they are preparing in Prague. They’re all angry,” he told iDnes.cz.
Uber is now waiting for a full court decision. “So far, we do not know when we will start service again in Brno,” Uber spokesperson Miroslava Jozova said to iDnes.cz.
