Prague, Nov 13 (BD) – The appearance of first major snowfall and cold weather of this year caused minor traffic issues through Sunday night and Monday morning. Photo: Pixabay

Despite the slippery roads, this sudden change in conditions resulted only in a few minor accidents which have gone without major consequences as the roads were guarded and drivers took precaution.

Wet and snowy roads were treated with snow melting chemicals and the authorities preemptively went to critical places on Sunday afternoon. Roads were taken care of in areas of western Bohemia, as well as other parts of Czech Republic such as Šumperska and Jesenice.

„Snow build-up on Cervenohorský saddle was about 10 cm.  It is still snowing and the road over the saddle can be passed, however with caution,“ a construction manager handling maintenance of the roads reported, Czech TV writes today.

„It was up to five centimeters of snow in the higher positions of Šumava, Bohemian Forest, but also in Brdy in the direction of Rožmitál, for example around Míšov,“ added Jiří Slapnička, Regional Road Administration and Roadside Inspector.

“In places, especially in the Tachov region, heavy snow is bending trees and breaking branches. We had to call the firefighters to remove them,” he added, noting that the original forecast of meteorologists seemed worse than what was the reality of Sunday night and Monday morning. Still, drivers should pay attention to the roads, drive carefully and take note of further meteorological predictions.
