Brno, Nov 18 (BD) – Brno earned its place in the history books by operating the first horse tramway on the nowadays Czech territory 148 years ago, in August 1869.
“We want to bring the attention of Brno’s citizens to this significant anniversary. This is a milestone for Brno transport company (DPMB) and the city of Brno. The tram was launched as the first of a series of anniversary events, ” Miloš Havránek, CEO of DPMB, said.
“The special tram operates on the lines #8 and #4,” Barbora Lukšová, spokesperson of DPMB, specified.
Decorated tram (KT8 type) has been operating since Monday, Nov 13.
The KT8 tram was chosen for its simple design. Now, it’s dressed in the golden stripe with art-deco style ornaments.
The jubilee tram is furnished with a wooden-like floor. On the ceiling, there is a timeline marking milestones from 1869 to 2019.
Passengers can view historical photographs and find more information about upcoming anniversary events.
The KT8 tram model was produced between 1986 and 1993 in the former Czechoslovakia. Soon after its release, KT8 became a popular socialist public transport model and was exported to states such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Soviet Union, or North Korea.
