As the first cold spells of winter grip the city, it feels like the right time to get acquainted with Nordic cinematography. The 8th annual Nordic Film Autumn Festival is taking place these days. So, grab your hats, scarves, and popcorn, and make way to the Hall of Břetislav Bakala.
This year, the festival organizers from Nordic Film Club (Severský filmový klub) promise rough humor, absurd drama and raw stories completed by peculiar northern music and pictures of gorgeous Scandinavian nature.
Nordic Film Club promotes the Nordic and Baltic cultures at festivals in cities across the Czech Republic: Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Hodonín and many others. The 8th year of the festival offers 24 films from 7 countries – 8 Swedish, 6 Danish, 5 Norwegian, 2 Estonian, 1 from Finland, 1 from Lithuania, and 1 from Iceland.
One of the side-goals of the festivals is to encourage the hearing disabled community to participate in cultural life. Therefore, all the festivals keep color-modified subtitles in the movies. Foreigners will also have a good time — all movie screenings in Prague, Brno and Ostrava will be accompanied by both Czech and English subtitles.
You can also look forward to Nordic Film Winter.
This year’s Brno festival programme started on Nov 14, and ends on Nov 23 with the “Holy Mess” film. “Holy Mess” is a Swedish comedy about a gay couple that invites their somewhat homophobic families to meet for the first time during Christmas celebration.
