Brno, Jan 17 (BD) – mmcité+ Brno continued its run of success when they beat USK Praha, 70-59, on Saturday in Campus Square. It was their third win in four games and it moved to them ninth place in the 12-team Kooperativa NBL.
Canyon Barry led the team with 20 points. Dorde Lelić scored in double digits in his second game for Brno; he was 4 of 6 from behind the 3-point arc and totaled 14 points.
Brno head coach Dejan Jakara was pleased with the victory, but he was still critical of his team’s start, which has often been a problem for his team. “We started wrong,” he said. “We had about four or five turnovers in the first three minutes so it was not good.”
Given the slow start, Brno was not able to build a lead and the game settled into a back-and-forth affair through three quarters.
“We just kept picking each other up and getting on each other,” said Kevin Mays, who had 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Eventually, the team support paid off: Brno took control in the final frame, outscoring Prague 20-10 in the final 10 minutes.
Jakara acknowledged the late offensive rebounds and defense: “I think our offensive rebounds were crucial to winning,” he said, “and our defense, in particular, in the last quarter.”
Mladen Primorac added 12 points and 12 rebounds.
With the victory, mmcité+ Brno joined USK Praha with a 6 -11 record. The next four teams higher in the standings —BK ARMEX Děčín, BC GEOSAN Kolín, DEKSTONE Tuři Svitavy and BK Olomoucko — all have nine wins.
The next league game will be at BK ARMEX Děčín on Saturday at 6 p.m. mmcité+ Brno returns home on Jan. 27 to host league-leading and undefeated ČEZ Basketball Nymburk at 7 p.m.

The Brno Sports Report is published every Wednesday. All dates and times are subject to change. Most of the stories are about the traditional “English-speaking” team sports — football, hockey, baseball, basketball, American football, rugby, etc. — but it is also about the interesting local spectator and participation sports — tennis, badminton, running, horse racing, swimming, rock climbing, biking, etc. If you have any suggestions for what should be included, please comment below or send an email to brnosports@gmail.com.
