Velvet Comedy returns to Naproti Absinthe Bar in Brno this Wednesday with a stand-up performance by American comic Jim Williams.
Raised in Arizona, the now Wroclaw-based Williams has been performing across the US and Europe for almost 20 years now, accumulating a number of awards and accolades in the process.
But as mentioned in an earlier Brno Daily article, perhaps more important than these achievements is the light that Williams sheds on many of life’s little mysteries, like the superpowers of native English speakers and the true meaning of Smingus Dingus. (Spoiler alert: it’s not just about getting presents.)
Although generally light-hearted, Williams’ routines have been known to take on a darker tone and an element of social commentary, broaching topics that are difficult to think, yet alone talk about, like the horrors and long-lasting consequences of fish flavoured jello.
But while his sets are deeply thought-provoking at times, audiences leave his performances feeling revived by the fun he pokes at living abroad, something Williams has done for the past 10 years in Poland.
This will be Williams’ second time performing in Brno, and he was so impressed by the hospitality of Brno on his first trip here that he recorded a video invitation for its denizens.
Jim Williams I’m Still Here is scheduled to begin at 8pm on February 21 at Naproti Absinthe Bar.
