Brno, Feb 25 (BD) – Luxe Getaways is an online magazine “for those with a passion to travel in style”.
It is a magazine that tries to help travelers with suggestions for every destination. “We make a point to feature both luxury and value-driven travel options,” Luxe Getaways editor Damon M. Banks explains on its website.
Freelance travel and lifestyle writer Janice Tober wrote a piece for Luxe Getaways’ Fall/ Winter 2017 edition, recommending Brno as an interesting travel destination in her article “An inside look at Brno in Czech Republic”, published on January 7, 2018. Tober describes the beauty of the city and picks a few places that a traveler should visit.
Let’s see what inspired a travel writer to report about our city.
Visitors to Brno will notice the impressive old buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries as well as the functionalist and modern architecture. This unique mix of old and new, traditional and modern, is something remarkable that induced Janice Tober to write about the city. “You will find spaces that have been repurposed and reborn to suit a modern ethos, a telltale sign of the nature of Brno’s people,” Tober writes.
As an example of this “old is wonderfully new again aesthetic”, Tober features Barceló Brno Palace, which she has personally visited.
Functionalist and modernist architecture are also well represented in Brno by, for example, the Avion Hotel, Zemanova Kavárna, or Stiassni Villa. Tober recommends visiting the early 20th century Villa Tugendhat, one of the pioneering projects of modernist architecture in Europe.
If you want to visit Tugendhat, you need to book tickets 2 or 3 months ahead of time, the villa’s official website recommends. On March 1–17 2018, Villa Tugendhat will be completely closed to the public due to film shooting, the website reports. In the area, Tober suggests visiting Café Era “for good coffee to go with the good design”.
Brno is a city full of students and young people (see our earlier story: “Brno in Top 5 of Best Student Cities in the World”), and that’s definitely a factor that shapes the city’s culture. Luxe Getaways also speaks highly of the “dark and cozy” Café Mitte; “nordic-style” Skog Urban Hub; 4pokoje for “good filter coffee”; the “surreal” Super Panda Circus; Petit Cru Wine Bar, the “perfect destination to try some local Czech wine”; and many other places.
When planning an itinerary for your friends or family who are visiting the Czech Republic, don’t forget to take enough time and show them around Brno. It is the second biggest city in the Czech Republic, after all.
