Brno, Mar 5 (BD) – According to the latest stats published by Brno Municipal Police on Friday, the ice conditions on Brno Reservoir are not safe yet. Povodí Moravy, or “Moravian River Basin”, an institution that among other activities monitors levels and flow patterns of bodies of water, issued a warning that walking on the ice is risky because they were filling the reservoir with water before the weekend.

People were able to walk on the ice at Mariánské údolí (Pod Hrádkem – 15 cm, and Kadlcův Mlýn – 14 cm) and Žebětínský rybník (12,5 cm) this weekend. The police marked these places as “thick ice layers,” and added that stepping on the ice should be always done “with caution and at one’s own risk.”

On Wednesday, police officers rescued a skater under whom the ice broke, Czech News Agency wrote.

“As for the Brno Reservoir, the ice broke under a skater again, according to witnesses on Saturday,” Brno Police reported on their Facebook page yesterday.

“The ice is very treacherous nowadays. It is being disrupted by water streams, air pockets, and mud gases, and it is breaking up. Hence we do not expect the ice [on Brno’s lake] to be safe for walking this year, ” said Brno Police spokesman Jakub Ghanem to Czech News Agency last Friday.
