Brno, Mar 8 (BD) – This week people in Brno can join a week of art that features “more than 50 different events, such as exhibitions, lectures, seminars, gallery events, and creative workshops,” organizers write on the official website.
Masaryk University and TIC Brno, the main organizers of Brno Art Week 9, cooperate with numerous Brno galleries: Moravian Gallery in Brno, The House of Arts, TIC Gallery, Brno City Museum, Pitevna Gallery, Klubovna Gallery, OFF/FORMAT Gallery and others.
Everybody is welcome to join the event, including foreigners – some of the content will be in English.

Event coordinator Irena Rodriguez Točíková considers Saturday and Sunday’s Experimental Painting – UMČO Workshop and the UMČO Art-Therapy Workshop (at Kulturní fara – Kafara, Fryčajova 16) as being particularly English speaker-friendly.
The art therapy workshop allows people to “communicate with art and make the participants gaze into the hidden parts of their personality”, while the experimental painting workshop is based on combining painting techniques and enjoying moments of spontaneous improvisation.
Both events are led by experienced teacher, art-therapist, and artist Veronika Hudcová. You can find out more here: Saturday program, Sunday program.
Other events include an exploration of Jurkovič Villa, a lecture on identity and visual communication, a stamp-making workshop for children, an exhibition of works by Brno-based painter Pavel Navrátil, screening of movies at Kino Art, and plenty more.
On Thursday, March 8 – International Women’s Day – you can watch the famous Czechoslovakian film Sedmikráky / Daisies, directed by Věra Chytilová, which is about “two girls named Marie and about the vicious circle of pseudo-values and pseudo-relationships,” as a review on Czech Centres has it. The movie will be screened with English subtitles at Kino Art’s temporary screening premises at Radnická 4.
The rest of the movies will be screened without English subtitles, so the only English-friendly movies will be those originally in English.
This includes the movie Fantastic Woman, which will be also be screened on Thursday. The movie is about transgender Marina, a waitress, and a singer; and Orlando, an elderly man, who fall in love and plan their future together.
