Brno, Apr 9 (BD) – Flock, Pack, Sharks – these sculptures represent not only various predators but also the natural elements air, earth and water. Michal Gabriel, the creator of this series, is a renowned Czech sculptor, university teacher, and former Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Technology (VUT Brno).
“Pack” does not represent a single animal species, as was the case with “Flock”. It is an artistic synthesis of a number of stylized large feline predators, capturing their elastic movement.
The opening of “Pack”, which was sponsored by Brno-střed Town Hall, took place last Wednesday. This is the second presentation of Gabriel’s sculptural work at Šilingrák Gallery.
Michal Gabriel has been active in the Czech art scene since the mid-1980s. He was one of the founding members of the Tvrdohlaví artistic movement (1987). In 1995, he received the prestigious Jindřich Chalupecký Award.
The third piece in this series, “Sharks”, will be put on display at a later date.
