Brno, Apr 16 (BD) – The latest data from the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ), published on March 22, 2018, show a decreasing trend in the crime rate in the South Moravian Region. In 2017, some 20,086 crimes were reported, 1,513 fewer compared to 2016, announced the Regional Administration of the Czech Statistical Office in Brno.

In total, the decrease was 7% year on year. Financial crimes accounted for 11.9% of the total.
According to ČSÚ, the current population of the region is 1,183,207. Out of the total number of reported criminal offenses in the region, 103 were committed by minors (persons under the age of 14) and 218 were committed by juveniles (persons aged 15-17).
The highest crime rate was reported in Brno-střed District, and the lowest in the districts of Blansko and Vyškov. Brno-Venkov District was the only South-Moravian district where the number of criminal offenses increased year on year.

Out of approximately twenty thousand criminal cases in 2017, 8,598 were solved and another 1,403 cases were “additionally solved”. (“Additionally solved” cases are those for which criminal prosecution had already begun in the previous year or previous years).
The number of crimes in the South Moravian Region in 2017 was the 4th highest among the Czech regions and, as in 2016, made up 9.9% of the total number of crimes in the Czech Republic, the Regional Administration of the Czech Statistical Office in Brno concluded in its report.
