Brno, May 2 (BD) – Have you noticed strange chimney-like poles in the streets of Brno from which steam rises in the winter? Excess steam, which needs to be discharged from the district heating pipes, is released through those. However, they have been slowly disappearing from Brno since 2010. Brno District Heating (Teplárny Brno) is in the process of converting to a system of distributing heat in the form of hot water as opposed to steam, reads the official website of Teplárny.

A complex modernisation of the district heating network and the ongoing transition from the use of steam to the use of hot water, which Teplárny Brno has been carrying out for the past eight years, are necessary steps towards stabilising the cost of heating for consumers.

Closures are planned for the streets Jaselská (complete closure from 2/5/2018 to October 2018) and the streets Grohova, Gorkého, Roubalova, Obilní trh, and Běhounská between the squares náměstí Svobody and Jakubské náměstí, lists the City of Brno on its special website for planned and ongoing renovation projects, Kopemezabrno.cz.

However, the scope of this year’s heating pipe replacement project will require the temporary closure of several hundred parking spaces, which will cause inconvenience to the residents of the streets affected by the constructions work.

Due to these restrictions, it will be temporarily possible to park at 55 newly established places on Údolní Street.
