Brno, May 2 (BD) – The planned cycle path will head from Kníničky via Jinačovice to Kuřim, Brno’s local daily Brněnská drbna reported yesterday.
The new cycle path is welcomed by both tourists and people who commute to work between these cities on a daily basis. Kuřim, the largest town of Brno-venkov district, is situated some 14 kilometres northwest of Brno and about 5 kilometres from Brno Lake (Brněnská přehrada).
The new route will be connected to the long-distance route ‘EuroVelo4’ and to ‘Cycle Route 1’ (more about ‘cyklotrasa 1’), which connect Brno and Prague.
On its website, EuroVelo, a network of 15 long-distance cycle routes, describes the 4000-km route ‘EuroVelo4’ that runs across the European continent as follows:
“The route runs through Prague and, after passing through the centre, turns to the east and joins the Elbe Trail and follows it to Kolin. After the UNESCO site Kutná Hora, it continues through the hilly Bohemian Highlands to South Moravia and its capital, Brno, which is another UNESCO heritage site.”
By the end of next year, all project and administrative requirements should be prepared and the construction work should begin in 2020.
The estimated cost of construction is 76 million Czech crowns, according to Brněnská drbna.
