If “music is what summer sounds like”, as the Facebook page of this event reads, what better way to welcome the season than an open-air festival where everyone can delight in music, hang out with friends and meet new people in a relaxing atmosphere?

Foreigners Brno, Brno Daily and Klub Cestovatelů Brno invite you to MeetUp Music Summer Opening, which will take place on May 24 in the beautiful gardens of Löw-Beer Villa, from 5pm to 9pm.

You will be able to enjoy concerts put on by expat artists and bands at this event, which was organised with the purpose of connecting the international community.

“However, it is not limited to foreigners – it is open to anyone wanting to get involved in the international community,” explained Sabina Jelínková, organiser of the event.

According to Jelínková, this festival “…is not off-limits to anyone. Since it starts in the afternoon, it is suitable for both families with kids and younger people, who can stay till the end and enjoy more rock-style oriented music. Older people will enjoy the easy-going atmosphere and the charming historical scenery. If the music is too loud, there is a large terrace garden where people can sit on a bench and watch the performances from a distance. The only limitation is that the garden doesn’t allow dogs.“

At the venue there will be a stand to buy food, coffee, masala tea and other drinks provided by Klub Cestovatelů, with Asian and vegetarian options available, but as Jelínková says, “expect more snacks than a ‘real’ dinner. You’ll have the chance to have a picnic in the gardens or smoke shisha and enjoy what we hope is a warm summer evening in a chilled out atmosphere.”

The entrance fee is voluntary, with money to be collected in a hat during the concerts to cover the costs of the sound system and production. For musicians and participants, we will arrange vouchers for food and drink, and their pay will depend on what people give during the concerts” explained Jelínková.

The organisers are still working on the programme, with just one international band – Ant Attack – confirmed so far. “(T)he other two are still not confirmed. There is an opportunity for local artists to contact me and participate, actually… We would like to make a space for international people to perform and not give up their passion for music just because they are abroad and don’t have connections here,” Jelínková clarified.

Likewise, volunteers are also welcome. According to Sabina, “(m)ost of the volunteering activities include providing some help at the event – talking to people, greeting and making them feel welcome… it is time well spent and it will allow them to see behind the scenes of the organisation of a small event, as well as meet other members of the international community.”
