Velvet Comedy returns to Naproti Absinthe Bar on Wednesday with a special treat – the oldest performing stand-up comedienne on either side of the Atlantic, Lynn Ruth Miller.

Originally from Ohio, the now UK-based Miller performs regularly across the UK, US and Ireland and has a long list of awards and accolades that are too numerous to mention here. (That’s what Facebook pages are for!)

A quick sample of her video blog Thoughts While Standing in the Queue, which can be viewed on her YouTube channel, reveals that Miller’s humour is rich with sharp observations on the present and hilarious anecdotes from her prodigious past.

And in her juxtaposition of where we have come from and where we have arrived at, it is sometimes the present that comes out on top, and sometimes the past. (How can one help but lament the loss of phrases such as ‘I kicked him in the cobblers’?)

“My comedy is about how much fun it is to grow old,” Miller told Brno Daily. “I think that ageing is a universal concern and I am delighted to use laughter to dilute this fear and show people that the way they age is a choice.”

And while much of her material consists of amusing takes on the ups and downs of growing old, Miller is definitely an inspiring individual, and her shows are nothing short of an affirmation of life.

Lynn Ruth Miller will take the stage at 8pm on Wednesday evening at Naproti Absinthe Bar, who will open their doors for the show at 7pm.

Tickets are available on GoOut, a link to which is available on this event’s Facebook page, or at the door on the night of the show if any tickets remain.
