Jihlava, Czech Republic, June 3 (BD) – From June 12 to 27, concert tour company Classical Movements presents the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra led by co-founder Benjamin Zander.
The orchestra will play in the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary and the Netherlands.
On Saturday June 16, they will play in Jihlava, the birthplace of Gustav Mahler, at the Gustav Mahler Festival.
The tour follows the cities of significance to Mahler’s life and career.
The talented members of the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra are between 12 and 21 years old, but age is just a number, claims Boston Philharmonic Artistic Advisor Mark Churchill.
“We know that these youngsters will play before musically sophisticated audiences in Europe, but the orchestra will not disappoint even the most seasoned listener,” writes Churchill in the press release.
Gustav Mahler’s Ninth Symphony will be the centrepiece of a demanding programme that also features George Butterworth’s The Banks of Green Willow and Maurice Ravel’s La Valse.
This will be the orchestra’s fifth international concert tour, and it also commemorates the 100th anniversary of the armistice of World War I, “highlighting symphonic works at the dividing line between the Romantic and Modern era”, reads the press release.
