Brno, Jun 15 (BD) – On Saturday, June 9, the Zbrojovka was open to public. Currently, the factory complex is closed for its ongoing transformation into “Nová Zbrojovka”, a new modern, vibrant and affordable neighborhood that will offer housing, business places and shopping areas, according, the official website of the City of Brno.
Zbrojovka has been the production site for arms, motor vehicles and small artillery for almost a century in Brno, since the Austro-Hungarian era.
In 1918, after World War I, “Zbrojovka Brno a.s.” was established by the Czechoslovak state and the factory became a production site for the Austrian Mannlicher rifles, according to Novazbrojovka.cz, the official website of the Nová Zbrojovka project.

Later in the ‘20s, production of automobiles, machine guns, aircraft engines and machine tools at Zbrojovka began and the factory became a big production center for arms and vehicles, according to the official website of the Zbrojovka factory.
In the ‘30s, Zbrojovka started producing standard and portable typewriters as well. By mid-’30, the company was a world-famous holding.
Now with the new plans for transformation in its 100th year, the area is set to become an attractive district that will revive the city. This 100th birthday for the old factory is celebrated with a makeover as an anniversary gift to the Zbrojovka.
“Nová Zbrojovka” is a multifunctional project of the real estate and investment company CPI Property Group. CPI estimates that the project could be completed by 2027.
