Two well known Moravian bands, Zadáci and Lidopop will perform an outdoor concert at Na Kuželně pub to raise money for a hospice for the elderly. Image: Official poster of the event

The evening will raise money for Hospice Sv. Alžběty Brno  (www.hospicbrno.cz) on Kamenná Street which specialises in caring for the elderly. Landlord David Vejr explained that he chose this charity as he feels that, while all charities are equally deserving, the elderly are often overlooked. A desire to help local Brno people, and Moravians, was also a motivating factor in choosing this organisation.

Brno bands

Zadáci and Lidopop are both well known throughout Moravia, playing at local, small and larger festivals as well as events in Bohemia.  As a non-musician, I am slightly at a loss as how to categorise their music as both bands have quite an eclectic range although it generally tends towards rock, ranging from soft to hard. Mainly they sing in Czech and often do covers of well know bands, so you can sing along in English – or practise singing in Czech. To get a better idea of their songs visit their Facebook pages (ZadáciLidopop on Facebook) or check them out on YouTube (see below).

Central but secluded location

Hidden away in Moravská Slavia Stadium on Vojtova (near the bottom end of Vídeňská, see map), Pivnice Na Kuželně is a family run pub with a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Although it’s only a few minutes from Mendlovo Náměstí  it feels like you are miles away from the city centre and you are truly experiencing a Czech local pub in a relaxed environment.

While the barmaid Míša is the only fluent English speaker the other staff, and locals, are more than used to welcoming and understanding English speakers. This is yet another perfect opportunity to have fun, practice Czech, listen to music, drink and have fun.
