Brno, Jun 25 (BD) – “It was exactly 179 years ago today that the connection to Brno from the so-called Northern Railway of Emperor Ferdinand was completed. Therefore, today is a great opportunity to introduce an event that will be important for Brno and beyond,” Brno mayor Petr Vokřál wrote on his Facebook profile this afternoon (Monday, June 25).

“It not possible to keep saying ‘the river option’ – the new Brno railway station needs a name – representative, simple, easy to remember, and unique to Brno. So today, a competition is starting to help us to choose the best name,” Vokřál explained.

People can submit their suggestions at soutez.nasnovejnadr.cz

Names including Bohumil Hrabal Station, New Station, Pod Petrovem, Šalingrad, Prague Station, Brno – Kometa Station, or Adamov – South have already been suggested by members of the public. Suggestions can be submitted until August 31.

The city, the South Moravian Region and the Ministry of Transport have recently agreed on the location of the new central station, which will be by the Svratka river, approximately 800 meters from the current station.
