With temperatures going over 30 degrees in Brno, it’s tempting to leave the hustle and bustle of the city, crack a few beers, and grill a nice piece of meat or some fresh summer vegetables with friends. Photo: Pixabay
Brno, Jun 26 (BD) – Grilling season has officially begun in Brno. The supermarkets are offering a variety of barbeque equipment and marinated meat ready for the grill. But what if you don’t have a summer cottage or a garden to chill out in? Don’t worry, Brno is trying to make its public space more lively, and has opened numerous public barbecue spots since 2016, known officially as “grillpoints”.
Six of them are located on the outskirts of the city on the beaches of Brno Dam. These places are Rakovec, Sokolské koupaliště, Rokle, Kozí horka, and two at Pod Dymou. “There is a lot of interest in barbecuing at the dam. Sometimes people have formed queues at grillpoints. That’s why we set up three new barbecue spots before the holidays,” Martin Ander, Deputy Mayor of Brno for the Environment, explained on the city’s website on Monday, June 25.

For those who don’t have the time to get out of the city, there are grillpoints in Špilberk and Lužánky parks. Although public, you need to reserve the place beforehand by email or phone. The fee for using these grillpoints is CZK 20. You can find the contact numbers as well as the current reservations here. Another barbecue spot is located at Kraví Hora; no reservation is required there.
