For the fourth year, the “Meruňkobraní” Apricot festival is taking place this weekend in Židlochovice, a small town around 18 kilometres south of Brno. The local Cultural Center is organising the event with a traditional spirit. During the festival, there will be two competitions, one for adults and one for kids, in which contestants will compete in the eating of apricot dumplings. The competition will take place at 4 pm on Saturday, July 14 in Namesti Miru. Accompanying the program will be a chef’s show on the main stage, which you can also participate in.

Fruit spirits, not only from apricots, are an integral part of Moravian culture and they are not just used in regional gastronomy. Another part of the Apricot festival is the tasting of traditional home-grown apricot brandy. Before the main program on Saturday, there will be an exhibition about the history of apricot growing in the region and a rock concert on Friday evening.
