Brno, Aug 8 (BD) – The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute forecasts peak afternoon temperatures to rise to 36 °C in the coming days. On Wednesday (August 8th) and Thursday (August 9th) temperatures could reach 38 °C in South Moravia.
Storms will provide some relief to the heat on Friday. Scattered showers are expected in the morning and thunderstorms in the evening.
Higher temperatures reduce soil moisture and increase water evaporation, contributing to the risk of drought. Moreover, rainfall was significantly below average across the whole of the Czech Republic this July. A lack of water in some parts of South Moravia “has occurred very often in the past five or ten years,” said Martin Ludvík, chairman of the Czech Fruit Growers’ Union.
