Brno, Aug 22 (BD) — Magera scores in fifth consecutive game as Zbrojovka wins again at home, Lokomotiva starts women’s football season with tough loss at Sparta Praha, and the Brno sports schedule.
BASEBALL
Top Extraliga Teams to Meet: Draci X Arrows
Draci Brno returned to its winning ways and the team will face its nearest rivals this week: Arrows Ostrava. The three games could prove to be a preview of the forthcoming postseason final series.
The Draci, who beat Eagles Praha three times last week, top the extraliga standings with a record of 13-2 in the Playoff Bracket. Ostrava is 12-3 and just one game back, after beating Cardion Hroši Brno (4-11) three times.
The Draci will play the Arrows in Brno on Friday at 7 p.m., in Ostrava on Saturday at 7 p.m. and again in Brno on Sunday at 2 p.m.
In the Playout Bracket, Technika Brno (8-2) split a doubleheader with the Třebíč Nuclears (9-1).
Technika has a doubleheader this Saturday against Olympia (7-3), the third-place team in the Playout Bracket standings.
MEN’S FOOTBALL
Zbrojovka Wins Again, Magera Scores Again
Sometimes you have to create your own luck. FC Zbrojovka Brno continued with their forward style of play and they were rewarded with some lucky bounces to beat previously undefeated Česky Budějovice, 2-1, last Friday.
Zbrojovka is now 2-1-2 and in sixth place in the Fortuna: Narodni Liga. It was their second home victory in a row.
The first goal was off of a centering pass from Milan Lutonský that was obviously deflected by the defender. Nevertheless, the additional arc was perfect for Lukáš Magera to continue his five-game scoring streak with a nicely placed header. The second Brno goal was an own goal.
Zbrojovka starts play in the MOL Cup this afternoon when it travels to Žďár n. Sázavou at 5 p.m.
The next league game is Saturday at Prostějov with an unusual start time of 10:15 a.m. Then Brno travels to Ústí nad Labem on Thursday, Aug. 30 for a 6 p.m. game.
Táborsko comes to Brno in the middle weekend of September for the next home game.
WOMEN’S FOOTBALL
Lokomotiva Struggles with Sparta, Dukla Next
Lokomotiva Brno-Herni Herspice started its second season in the top league of women’s football with a tough assignment at AC Sparta Praha last Sunday, and they lost, 8-0.
Lokomotiva have another road game this Sunday at FK Dukla Praha. The game starts at 11 a.m.
The team will have their home opener when they host FC Slovan Liberec on Sept. 8. Their remaining home games are mostly later in the fall: on Sept. 22 they host SK Slavia Praha, then finish with three in a row against 1. FC Slovácko on Oct. 13, AC Sparta Praha on Oct. 20 and FK Dukla Praha on Oct. 27.
