An 80-meter building is proposed to be built in the courtyard of Lidická – Kotlářská – Bayerova – Burešova in Brno. Local residents object, and are currently preparing a petition against the construction of the skyscraper. The local branch of the Green Party (“Zelení”) is supporting the petition. Brno, Sep 17 (BD) – The development is to consist of several towers, with the highest one of 23 floors. The building will reach a height of almost 80 meters, with the mast at the top at 95 meters, according to the project documentation. The historic garden in the courtyard is to be demolished due to the construction of a parking lot for just under 200 cars.

“We appreciate the possibility to live in a late 19th century house with irreplaceable cultural and historical value, and we value housing in an environment that has been formed in harmony with nature, with gardens in the courtyard, not according to the expanding needs of parking and large concrete surfaces,” explained Gabriela Stöger, Deputy of the Petition Committee, who lives right next to the planned skyscraper.

Although up to 177 housing units are expected to be available in the building, according to the Green party it is obvious from the developer’s plans that the apartments will not address the lack of affordable flats in Brno. “This is luxury living that ordinary people will not be able to afford,” said Jasna Flamiková, Green Party candidate for Mayor, in a press release.

The project documentation has been completed, but the territorial plan approval procedure has not started yet.
