Brno, Sep 17 (BD) – The newly re-opened narrowest hotel in Europe, with a unique vertical structure, will provide a unique backdrop to the festival of design, which will again feature interesting names from the Czech Republic and abroad. The KOGAA studio is the main organizer and designer of the architectural concept for the event and installations. KOGAA founding partner Alexandra Georgescu is the main curator of the festival. She first brought the festival to Brno in 2015.
This year’s Brno Design Days festival theme is “DISCLOSE”, following previous years’ themes of “IMMERSE” and “UNSEEN”. The festival promises a program that will include inspirational lectures, workshops, site specific installations, design projects around the city center, fashion shows, and design shops. Brno Design Days will also feature several movie screenings and parties. A special design café sponsored by Soffa lifestyle magazine and Industra Coffee will provide refreshments to visitors throughout the festival.

Young designers such as fashion designer Margherita Carrara from fashion house Christian Dior, Bertrand Schippan from MVRDV‘s world-famous architectural studio, talented designers Jakub Pollág and Václav Mlynář from the deFORM product studio and experienced typographer David Březina from Rosetta Type Foundry have already confirmed their attendance.

Brno Design Days aims to spread and deepen awareness of design and highlight its contribution to everyday life and business.
The Avion Hotel was completed in 1928, and served as a hotel with a café. In 1948, the hotel was nationalised, and received guests until the 2000s. Due to unclear ownership and insufficient maintenance, the former architectural gem known as the narrowest hotel in Central Europe (with a maximum diameter of 8.5 m), located on the main pedestrian street of Česká, had fallen into disrepair. Current owner Stanislav Berousek bought Avion in 2005. The reconstruction project was partly designed by well-known Czech architect and designer Eva Jiřičná.
