Every year, the organizers of the Be2Can Festival select the best films from the world’s three most prestigious festivals: Berlin, Venice, and Cannes “applying the principle of multi-platform distribution through cinema, TV, VOD and DVD”, as they describe it on the official festival website www.be2can.eu. Be2Can provides the audience with an insight into what’s new at the festivals, and shows films that are usually not yet screened within standard distribution. Brno, Sep 25 (BD) – In Brno, it will take place at Kino Scala in Moravské náměstí. The festival will feature many English-friendly screenings such as Sunset, Mug, Shoplifters, and Under the Silver Lake. “English-friendly screenings will be at Kino Scala on Sunday 7th of October. The films Sunset, Mug, Shoplifters, and Under the Silver Lake are English-friendly. The screening in Scala Cafe of Our Little Sister won’t be English friendly,” Kristýna Haklová, Program Coordinator of Be2Can Film Festival, told Brno Daily.

Hungarian drama Sunset is set in early-20th century Budapest, and follows 20-year-old Irisz Leiter, who arrives in the city having spent her adolescence in an orphanage. Polish film Mug shows a chapter in the life of Jacek, who is working as a builder of the giant statue of Christ the King in western Poland when he has a horrible accident at work and becomes the first Polish citizen to have a face transplant, with all the public and media attention. Shoplifters takes the audience to Tokyo, Japan, where they meet Osamu and his family. Osamu is trying to make ends meet so he and his son go to shoplift. The American modern noir comedy drama Under the Silver Lake with Andrew Garfield takes the audience “on a hallucinogenic trip around Los Angeles,” according to the description on the website. The main character, 33-year-old Sam, searches for his mysterious neighbour Sarah after she goes missing. For more information, check the festival program for Kino Scala.

Some screenings, including 3 Days in Quiberon and In the Aisles, will take place at the temporary venue of Kino Art on Radnická Street (program) which is limited in space. However, the movies in Art will not be shown with English subtitles.

The goal of the Be2Can festival is “not just to present films but also to start a critical discussion about the playwrights, the politics and the awards of these selected films,” reads the Be2Can website.
