Brno, Oct 23 (BD) This November, Czech Theater, z.s. presents R.U.R., written by Karel Čapek and translated into English by Claudia Novack. This famous Czech play, also known as Rossum’s Universal Robots, introduced the word Robot to the world almost 100 years ago. It was prescient for its time and the questions it raises remain relevant today: What makes us human? How can we find purpose without work?
Performances will be at Music Lab, Opletalova 1, at 7 pm on November 3, 4, and 11, 2018. The November 3 show is sold out; tickets for the 4th and 11th are still available through smsticket.cz. The performances will feature a modern translation that more closely captures Čapek’s original brilliance than previous translations.
Czech Theater is a new multicultural amateur community theater presenting Czech plays in English. Its mission is to make Czech theater culture accessible to people who do not understand the Czech language and to show Czech people a different view of their culture than they are used to, thus bridging the gaps between cultures. As a community theater, the group features amateurs each contributing their own skills.
